t-shirt Braided Headbands

So, I finally went to the 'someday file' on my boards in Pinterest and actually completed a project!! I am very happy with the result. It is one of the 15,078 posts about re-purposing t-shirts...

Make it and Love it - JUN 29 2011 Re-purposing: Tshirts into 5-strand-braided-headbands

Here is my end result! This was all out of one shirt, and I was able to use the other fabric for other things. One thing I did do different, is I went with ribbon around the seam so that I could slip a bow or embellishment on it!

A Gem in Greenfield, Iowa

Ed & Eva's has opened! I just received an email today with some details. Sounds like Greenfield is becoming a place to be in Central Iowa! I haven't had the chance to visit yet, but will soon.

-----
The Warren Cultural Center and ED & EVA'S hosted 400 people for tours at the opening day on April 14. Additionally, 155 (a full house) participated in the gala event that evening...shopping, dining, and dancing. The Pentel International Children's Art Exhibition is featured in the gallery until April 26, so school children and visitors are stopping in daily to view it.

ED & EVA'S is open Mon. - Fri. 11:00- 5:30 and Sat. 10:00 - 2:00 as well as during special events, such as the gala, artist reception for the Pentel Exhibit, and this week-end when the Cumberland Rose Players, the Warren Cultural Center's theater troupe, opens with its first show in the newly restored theater.

Coach tours sponsored by our local bank through In Bound Iowa will be starting up soon, so more out of town shoppers will be stopping by.

Please visit the website: warrenculturalcenter.com for pictures of progress.

Greenfield is a great destination. Hotel Greenfield is a newly restored hotel which is listed on the National Register, so you have a charming boutique hotel in which to stay.

The Henry A. Wallace  Country Life Center is just 7 miles from Greenfield. It's a perfect spot to walk the prairie path, have lunch on Thurs. or Fri., dinners on Fri and Sat. night, and delightful to see the CSA vegetables in the garden.

Market Day for Play - Giftmart

This past Saturday I participated in Market Day for Play, a gift mart, fundraiser for Clive Elementary's playground. It was a great cause and a fun day.

Here are a few pictures of the display!

The bow stand

Larger hats on one side...

bows and headbands in the middle

...smaller hats on the other.

This is only my second show, so I am still 'learning the ropes'. I had bought these great trunks at Hancock fabrics that made displaying my hats pretty easy and sectioned them off according to size. Displaying hats is not an easy task!

The bow holder, is actually a candle stick holder, also found at Hancock Fabrics. It worked really well and I will just have to tweak a couple of things the next time that I use it.

All in all the show went well! Was not the amount of traffic that I had expected, it being an elementary and all, but I did sell some things and got a few custom orders.

My next show will be in Altantic, IA, my hometown, for a yearly event called 'Atlanticfest' on August 11th. I will then be at the big Waukee, IA yearly craft bazaar at Schuler Elementary on October 27th.

Looking forward to both!

In the mean time, it is time to start upping my inventory and posting my new designs for fall!

Looking Ahead to Garage Sale Season - Frame to Tray to Table

What can you find a lot of at garage sales? Frames!

There is obviously a lot you can do with a frame. One of my favorite ways of re-purposing a frame is to make it into a tray.'

Here is one without the handles:

I've been thinking about trays lately as eating outside will be more frequent now with the nicer weather.

When eating outside, it is great to have a tray to bring in and out with food, as table place settings, and even to help clean it all up. I'm planning on getting a few so that each guest would have their own, making it easier to bring inside.

Plus, there are endless opportunities when it comes to trays.

A small one could even be used for keys by the door. Get creative and look at the next frame you see at a garage sale differently!

Hidden Treasures at...Walgreens

I have a lot of people ask me where I find supplies, as I am always on the look out for a good deal!

$3.99 at Walgreens

Usually it is a variety of places, Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Walgreens.

I know! Walgreens? Aren't they usually just overpriced?

They actually offer a variety of bows and embellishments that come on headbands or on their own. You just have to be able to look past what they actually are on the rack. Or use them as they already come!

It is like thrifting, some days you are going to find a treasure and some days you are going to walk away empty handed.

$3.99 at Walgreens

I am going to use the larger flower as is but will be adding at least one of the smaller flower clips to a bow. Stay tuned to see the final product!
